Herbarium of Wild Edible Greens
An emergency meeting was held under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung in a unit of the Korean People’s Army one day in summer 1952 at the midst of the fierce Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953.)
The commanding officers have thought that the agenda would be another operational task, but they wondered to know that it was a matter of supply service to the military men.
President Kim Il Sung first inquired of an officer in charge of supply service about the actual state of affairs in the field and then instructed to add wild edible greens to the list of side dishes.
Next morning he climbed a mountain accompanied by an official to collect wild edible greens.
After collecting a basketful of wild edible greens, he told to the official before he climbed down the mountain to this effect: yesterday, I said to add wild edible greens to the list of side dishes of the soldiers.
But I feel uneasy about the soldiers for that they cannot discern the edible and inedible.
That day he made a herbarium of edible wild greens in an album-like book with samples one by one with a detailed caption on the name of each herb, habitat and references to differentiate with toxic greens.
Any reader could easily distinguish the edible and toxic greens in the book.
He sent this herbarium to the unit he visited the previous day.
