Kaesong Namdae Gate
Kaesong Namdae Gate is the old gate of a castle in Pukan-dong, Kaesong City.
It was built between1391 and1393 and repaired in 1899.
It was destroyed during the Fatherland Liberation War, but it was restored to the original state in 1954.
It consists of the granite embankment of oblong plane and gate tower on it.
The battlement (long defence laid on castle walls) was setup on top of the embankment for shooting enemies with holes of various forms.
Wood pillars stand on the stone pillars.
The gatehouse has gable roof of fold eaves.
The angle rafter putting up as if it would fly gives a light semblance in good harmony with the firmly standing body. It boasts of the beauty peculiar to the old architecture of Korea.
It has been anvil-patterned painted to fit the nature of the gatehouse and so it looks polite and weighty. There is a famous bell of Yonbok Temple at the gatehouse of the Kaesong Namdae Gate.
