Korean People’s Revolutionary Army

April 25, 1932 is the day when President Kim Il Sung founded the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army, the first revolutionary armed forces of Korea.
In those days it was called the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army.
The founding of the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army was a declaration of war against the Japanese imperialist aggressors.
In less than two years after its foundation the guerrilla unit grew in number and strength. So, the President reorganized Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army into the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army (KPRA) in March 1934.
The KPRA under his guidance defeated the Japanese imperialists who regarded themselves as the “leader of Asia” without state backing and support of the regular army to accomplish the historic cause of national liberation on August 15, 1945.
On February 8, 1948, the Korean People’s Army, the regular revolutionary armed forces with anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters as its backbone and composed of the sons and daughters of the working people, was founded. It carried forward the glorious revolutionary traditions of the KPRA.
