Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland
President Kim Il Sung convened the Nanhutou meeting in mid-1930s to put forward the policy of creating a permanent organization of united front involving all the anti-Japanese patriotic forces and pushed ahead with the preparations for its realization.
In the intervals of arduous battles and marches and by the side of campfire, he drew up the program and statute of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF) and its inaugural declaration.
Having finished all the preparations, he called a historic Donggang meeting on May 5, 1936 where he declared the founding of the ARF, the first umbrella organization of anti-Japanese national united front.
The participants in the meeting elected Kim Il Sung as the president of the ARF, reflecting the unanimous will and desire of the Korean people.
Since the inauguration of the ARF the anti-Japanese national united front movement could be developed in a more well-knit and streamlined way in close combination with the anti-Japanese armed struggle across the country. It made it possible to build up revolutionary forces centering around the ARF and to further solidify the mass foundation for Party founding.
The ARF developed into a nationwide organization with hundreds of thousands of membership, spreading in a short period of time to different parts of Korea from the northern area, and even to vast tracts of north China and Japan.
