The tomb mural of Koguryo officially registered as world cultural heritage in UNESCO is the picture property with the longest history in the DPRK. They are recognized as the masterpiece of medieval fine art in the East.
The mural paintings in the three tombs in Kangso in Sammyo-ri, Kangso District, is appraised as a masterpiece representing the picture of four guardians of the East in the world art history of middle ages.
The mural paintings whose colors still remain vivid are in a big tomb and middle tomb.
There is the picture of four guardians showing Chongryong (blue dragon), Paekho (White Tiger), Jujak (Red Phoenix) and Hyonmu (Turtle-Serpent).
Except that there are also some decoration pictures together with the ones of a supernatural being, fold of mountains and various animals.
