Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum

The Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum is located on the bank of Pothong River flowing through Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
It was opened to the public on August 17, 1953 and newly built on the bank of Pothong River in April 1974 thanks to the great care of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.
It was modernized in July 2013 marking the 60th anniversary of the victory in the war at the initiative and energetic guidance of General Secretary Kim Jong Un who wanted to glorify through generations the undying leadership feats of President Kim Il Sung for the victory in the war and the exploits of Chairman Kim Jong Il in leadership over the army.
The museum covers a total area of 93 000 square meters. It is composed of the main gate, the monument inscribed with President Kim Il Sung’s signature, the monument to the poem dedicated to it, the main theme sculpture “Victory” and ten groups of sculptures of subsidiary theme, exhibition halls of historic and merited weapons, defeated and captured arms, weapons captured in the postwar period, and grandiose main building of the museum.
Exhibited on the bank of Pothong River is the U.S. imperialist armed spy ship “Pueblo” captured by the Navy of the heroic Korean People’s Army when it illegally intruded into the East Sea of Korea for espionage acts in January 1968.
