97 years have elapsed since the formation of the “Down-with-Imperialism Union” (DIU), the historic root of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

President Kim Il Sung set up the Down-with-Imperialism Union, the first vanguard organization, with young revolutionaries of new generation sharing same ideology and aim, on October 17, 1926.

The formation of the DIU was the starting-point of the struggle for the building of a revolutionary party of Juche type, a new type that was different from the preceding parties.

The program of the DIU was the basis of the program of the WPK and the principle of independence the DIU held up was the principle of the party building and activities and the members trained by the DIU were the pivot for the party foundation.

As it had such a strong root of the DIU the WPK gave full play to its viability from the first days of its founding.

As there were the noble ideal of the DIU set forth by the President and the principle of independence he held fast to in each period and at every stage of the revolution and construction, the Korean people won shining victories in the building of a new country after the liberation, three-year-long Fatherland Liberation War, post-war rehabilitation and construction, social revolution of two stages and great struggle of socialist construction.

The WPK under the wise guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il had a more perfect appearance of the revolutionary party of Juche and always emerged ever-victorious.

Today the WPK has come to a new turning point under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who is creditably carrying forward the Juche-based idea and cause of the party building of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

At the Fourth Conference of the WPK the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un formulated Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as eternal guiding idea of the party and revolution and led the WPK to regard the modeling of the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as its supreme program.

Ever-victorious is the cause of the WPK carrying forward the lineage of the DIU and advancing toward a new higher stage under the guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
