Chol Pass, 677 meters high above sea level, is known as a steep pass with 99 turns. It is 16 kilometers long by going up and the same by coming down.When officials asked Chairman Kim Jong Il not to climb the rugged Chol Pass any longer, he said, don’t tell me any longer, if the Supreme Commander is afraid of the cliff, who will visit my soldiers.
The Chairman climbed Chol Pass again and again to see the soldiers. That is why the Korean people call the pass the symbol of the Songun revolutionary leadership of the Chairman.
