The scene of autumn-tinted Mt. Kuwol in September is very beautiful. So the mountain takes its name from September.
The mountain boasting of peculiar natural beauty of mountains and valleys was well known as one of six famous mountains of Korea.
It is 954 meters high above sea level and its acreage is 110 k㎡ . It is composed of 99 peaks, large and small, including its main peak Sahwang Peak.
The valleys of the mountain have Ryongyon, Samhyongje and other waterfalls and ponds.
The mountain has tens of kinds of trees and a lot of medical plants and animals.
The scenes of the mountain are different from one another according to seasons.
It has the remains of a castle on the mountain which was one of the five castles in Hwanghae Province. The castle is 5 230 meters in circumstances.
