Kaesong Koryo Insam, Special Product of Korea
There are a lot of world-famous special products in Korea and among them is Kaesong Koryo Insam (ginseng).
Insam means that the shape of its roots is like man. Insam that grows in mountains is called wild insam and the cultivated one is called insam.
The custom of cultivating and using the Koryo Insam was registered as the state immaterial cultural heritage. And the custom has come down to our people from then on.
The home of Koryo Insam is Kaesong. It is well known at home and abroad.
According to its processing method, insam is divided into hongsam (a steamed-and-dried insam)and white insam.
For the essential amino acid, various kinds of vitamin, mineral matter and others necessary for the health and longevity of the people, it is used for various kinds of traditional Korean medicines and tonics.
Insam increases vitality, relieves fatigue, raises mental and physical ability and promotes energies.
Farms, factories and institutes specializing in the cultivation, processing and studying insam have been built in Kaesong under the wise guidance and meticulous care of the Workers’ Party of Korea and great efforts are concentrated on the work to keep the unique features of the Kaesong Koryo Insam and increase its output.
