Walled City of Pyongyang
The Walled City of Pyongyang is the capital of Koguryo.
It is called “Jangan Wall”, too.
The Walled City of Pyongyang consists of 4 castles, inner, middle, outer and north ones blocked with walls.
The total length of the walls of the castle is about 23 kilometres.
The inner wall covers the area from Ulmil Pavilion to Namsan Hill, the middle wall the area from An Hill south of the inner wall to Taedong River to the east, the outer wall the wide area to the Taedong River south of the middle wall and north wall Moran Hill north of the inner wall and the area called Jongum Gate.
The Walled City of Pyongyang had seven generals’ terraces.
Among them are Ulmil Pavilion of the inner wall and Choesung Pavilion of the north wall.
The Walled City of Pyongyang shows well the history and culture of Koguryo, capital city system of the late period of Koguryo and its development and resourcefulness and talents of the people of Koguryo.
