Ninety-nine Bends of Chonsangsu, Living Monument
Ninety-nine bends of Chonsangsu is a living monument in Sampho-ri, Yonsa County, North Hamgyong Province.
It is in the valley through which flows Chongsangsu, a branch of the Yonmyonsu flowing down from Kwanmo Peak.
In the vicinity of the Chonsangsu are Kwanmo Peak, Mt. Tojong and other mountains high above the seal level.
Ninety-nine bends of Chonsangsu takes its name from the fact that the water flows on a high place with a lot of bends composed of rocks.
It is also called a river with ninety-nine rocks.
This river flows zigzag as it was made from the cracked granite that was hollowed and cut by water.
The ninety-nine bends of Chonsangsu has the floor and sides composed of rock beds.
In the rainy season the current of the water is very swift with the loud sound and in the dry season round stones, large and small, are appeared in different places.
The ninety-nine bends of the Chonsangsu is a living monument of great academic importance.
