Pohyon Temple of Mt. Myohyang

Pohyon Temple in Mt. Myohyang, Hyangsan County, North Phyongan Province, dates back to Koryo (918-1392). It was built in the year 1042 and rebuilt in the year 1765.
There is a room to preserve "the 80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures". It consists of more than 6000 volumes that the large amount of Buddhist scriptures was collected by categories and printed in wooden blocks in Koryo.
The "80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of the Buddhist Scriptures" is not a mere scripture, but a spiritual product showing the Koryo people’s national pride and trust of their country.
One day in June 1989, President Kim Il Sung visited this temple and gave instructions to build a modern preservation room equipped with the updated equipment and keep the " 80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of the Buddhist Scriptures" in it so that it would be introduced widely.
The Pohyon Temple is a valuable national cultural heritage of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as it has rare-to-be-seen historic relics.
