In September 1948 President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) saw to it that the constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) was adopted at the First Session of the Supreme People’s Assembly(SPA).

With deep insight into the actual situation under which the drawing out of a new constitution for the development of the socialist system was an important matter that brooked no further delay in 1970s, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the First Session of the Fifth SPA adopted “The Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” On December 27, 1972.

The proclamation of the Socialist Constitution in the DPRK was a historic event of epoch making significance in developing the state and social system and accomplishing the socialist cause of Juche.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who is creditably carrying forward the Juche-based idea of establishing socialist constitution, led the Fifth Session of the 12^th SPA, the Seventh Session of the 12^th SPA and the Fourth Session of the 13^th SPA to amend and supplement the constitution so as to name President Kim Il Sung, founder of the DPRK and father of socialist Korea, and Chairman Kim Jong Il, who demonstrated the dignity and national power of the country in the world true to the idea and cause of the President, as eternal leaders of Juche Korea, and Socialist Constitution as Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Constitution.

The naming of the President and the Chairman who were elder statesmen and great sages of the revolution recognized and praised by the world as eternal leaders of Juche Korea and the Socialist Constitution as Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Constitution is the highest expression of noble loyalty and moral obligation of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to the leaders and their cause.

Having Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Constitution is only a great fortune and honor of the Korean people who are blessed by the leaders generation after generation. 

The Korean people who are advancing along the road of Juche, holding up the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, prominent great man of the century, and holding fast to Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Constitution as a mighty weapon of the revolution and construction under his guidance will be crowned with only victory and glory.

December 27 is Socialist Constitution Day of the DPRK.
