World First Aid Day
Today, the world is greatly affected by frequent spells of extreme high temperature, drought, flood, hurricane, heatwave and other extreme weather patterns happening everywhere regardless of season.
This year, too, various parts of the world feel the growing impact of global warming, suffering huge human and material losses from heavy rains and floods.
The increasing severity of climate change urgently requires all to possess first aid(FA) knowledge and capabilities needed for saving lives.
As an essential humanitarian activity, the FA is basic aid intended to save and help those who suddenly fall ill or get injured before professional medical assistance can arrive.
Every year since 2000, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which plays a leading role in education and service of FA over the world, has celebrated the 2nd Saturday of September as the WFAD.
On the occasion of the day, the IFRC and national societies(NSs) conduct a range of activities to raise public awareness about how FA can save lives, especially in situations of crisis. IFRC has defined this year’s WFAD theme as “First Aid and Climate Change”.
