Mirim Riding Club The Korean people have been fond of horse riding since old time. The horse riding has grown all the more popular among the Korean people with the opening of a riding club in Mirim area in a suburb of Pyongyang. Across the vast expanse of the ground stand scores of service buildings associated with the horse riding along with riding tracks. They boast of top-class facilities like the indoor and outdoor training areas, a rehabilitation centre, a veterinary hospital and so on. It also has a learning space for knowledge about horse riding, consisting of several lecture rooms and sci-tech dissemination rooms. Mirim Riding Club is giving the additional pleasure and optimism to our people as a public horse riding facility.

They also compete with each other to make more delicious kimchi. In this season, the friendly feelings between neighbors are further deepened and every house and every village is full of laughter. Following is the recipe of whole cabbage kimchi. First, pickle the cabbage and then wash them. Then put spices made of red pepper, onion, garlic, ginger, fish, pickled fish, etc. inside the leaves of the cabbage and ferment them. Whole cabbage kimchi is the traditional food of our people, and it is indispensable for their diet. The ingredients and recipes for kimchi are different from one region to another. The “Kimchi-making Custom” of the DPRK was registered as World Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015.

WPK’s Founding Anniversary Celebrated with Splendour in DPRK The 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea was celebrated with splendour all across the country. A large stream of people visited the supreme sanctuary of Juche - the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and showed their respect to President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who lie in state. At the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun the visitors paid tribute with humble reverence to the peerless great men who built the WPK into a popular Party that commands absolute support and trust of the people. Officials, working people, service personnel and youth and students visited mosaics depicting the images of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il as well as their statues on Mansu Hill and other places across the country, laid floral baskets, bouquets and flowers and paid tribute to them. Many people visited the Party Founding Museum associated with the great history of the foundation of our Party. National flag-raising ceremonies took place in different parts of the country. Performances were given in Pyongyang and other parts of the country to celebrate the October holiday. Public catering facilities across the country were crowded with bright-faced guests. The Central Zoo, the Natural History Museum, the Rungna People’s Recreation Ground and other cultural and recreational facilities reverberated with endless laughter of working people and schoolchildren enjoying the holiday. Night streets of the capital city were adorned with brilliant illumination to the delight of people appreciating the nocturnal view of the October holiday.

For Environmental Protection The DPRK specified environmental protection as a noble patriotic undertaking for the country and the nation, and is directing great efforts to it. It has enacted several environment-related laws like the laws on environmental protection, assessment of environmental impact, national land planning, underground resources, etc. and constantly amends the existing laws to cope with emerging environmental issues. A nationwide environmental management system has been put in place and environmental protection is being pushed ahead with in close connection with the socio-economic development. All factories and enterprises are required to be equipped with a full set of anti-pollution facility ranging from gas purifier and dust arrester to waste water purifier. Modern tree nurseries are built in every city, county and province to industrially provide saplings necessary for afforestation and urban ecological environment is showing a marked upward trend with the undertaking of such projects as roof-greening and vertical-greening regarding rooftops and walls of dwellings and public buildings. Environmental protection has now become an all-people undertaking and newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and other publications are actively engaged in relevant information and publicity activities.
