Protection and Effective Use of Water Resources
March 22nd is the World Water Day. Water is the source of human birth, growth, evolution and existence.
Today demand for water is increasing across the globe due to population increase and economic growth. On the other hand water crisis is worsened by the impact of the climate change.
In the meantime, a large proportion of world population is dying of or suffering from water-borne diseases. Water crisis is one of the three crises mankind is facing, together with food and ecology crisis.
The Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS) is actively engaged in the activities for protection and effective utilization of water resources.
RC volunteers across the country together with community people have conducted activities to renovate their villages in a hygienic and cultural way including making sure the hygienic protection areas in water sources, distribution site and pump stations befit the standards and ensuring safe disposal of waste from households.
They were also actively engaged in hygiene promotion activities on water sanitation and prevention of water-borne diseases targeting the local population.
