Responding to Disaster-prone Abnormal Weather
As a subsidiary body to the Government, the Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS), is organizing various activities to support the government’s efforts to promptly and efficiently respond to all sorts of natural disasters and unexpected crisis caused by climate change.
The branch staff and volunteers of Red Cross Society at all levels and the Red Cross Youth are conducting various diverse activities to raise the awareness of the common knowledge of crisis response including the risk and impact of disaster-prone abnormal weather, and disaster-specific response and code of conduct among the local people in their regions.
And a large number of branch staff and volunteers are contributing to the disaster risk reduction of the local government bodies in the relevant areas through their participation in the dredging of river, reinforcement of embankment, tree planting and erosion control project.
They also set up observation posts at the flood- and landslide-prone areas to improve the preparedness for the rainy season.
