On the Occasion of the 76th Founding Anniversary

October 18 is the founding anniversary of the Red Cross Society of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS)
The DPRK RCS was founded on October 18, 1946 on the initiative of President Kim Il Sung.
Since its foundation, the DPRK RCS has achieved great successes in the work to prevent and alleviate misfortune and pain of people and promote their health and well-being over the past 70-odd years as a state-sponsored organization. In particular, it has achieved excellent successes in the work to save lives of people from natural and public health crises which have been further increasing as a result of climate change in recent years. Thanks to these successes, the DPRK RCS enjoys great support and sympathy from the government, social organizations and people.
The DPRK RCS has now developed into a powerful public health and sanitation and rescue organization with over 100 000 volunteers, more than 249 000 members of the youth and 209 branches of the Red Cross across the country.
The DPRK RCS will as ever be faithful to its mission and direct all its efforts to successfully implementing the Strategy 2030 in close cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies of different countries of the world. For the present, it will further enhance the overall capacity to contribute to the state anti-epidemic capacity and building its crisis-coping capability, while overcoming all difficulties including the protraction of the global public health crisis.
The DPRK RCS, faithful to the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, will continue to contribute to its development in the future.
